The Duowenwen team · Updated

This page explains what Duowenwen collects, how long we keep it, who sees it and how to delete it. Some of the people who use Duowenwen are minors, so we've tried to be as plain as we can.

What do you collect?

The email address used to sign in; the photos of problems your child takes; the text transcribed from those photos; explanations, follow-up questions and question maps; and payment records. Card payments are handled by our payment processor: we never see your card number or your payment account details; we only record what was paid for. We also keep the access logs the server needs in order to run.

Activity logging ("Help us improve")

"Help us improve" is on by default, and you can turn it off at any time on the Settings page; once off, this account stops being recorded on every device. For children under 14, a parent or guardian should decide. This permission is separate from consent to chat, and the server confirms it for each conversation. Once confirmed, we record actions such as choosing or removing a photo, sending results and timings, reviewing and choosing follow-up questions, along with the linked session or message IDs, a limited device display category, a browser engine category, the page version, and capped timings. We do not additionally record the text you type, photos, file names, the full user agent or device fingerprints. These records are for authorised back-office staff to troubleshoot experience problems by hand only; they are not used to train our own models and not used for advertising. After you pause consent, events that arrive late or carry an old consent version are rejected; records already sent are still cleared according to the retention period.

Activity records are shown for the last 7 days only and are cleared regularly by homework maintenance after that. When you delete a conversation, they are deleted with it, the linked manual troubleshooting notes are cleared, the activity-logging consent is revoked, and no new troubleshooting entries are accepted for that conversation. Only the necessary non-content metadata is kept, such as revision number, status, the troubleshooter's identifier and time. These are client-side observations that may be incomplete, and they do not replace the real state of a conversation or task.

How long do you keep photos and chats?

Transcribed text is kept for 7 days, so your child doesn't have to retake the photo when asking a follow-up; after 7 days it is deleted automatically.

Photos of problems are kept for 90 days at most and then deleted automatically. We keep them that long because the operator may view the photos your child actually takes (crooked, glary, handwritten) in order to improve recognition quality. Only the operator can see the photos; they are not public and are not given to advertisers or any other unrelated third party. Follow-up records and question maps belong to your child and are kept in the account; they are deleted when the account is deleted.

We do not use photos, transcribed text or chat records to train our own models. But problems are read and explained by third-party AI services: OpenAI (through the Codex command line) reads the problem and produces the reference answer, and Google Vertex AI writes the explanation. This content is sent to them for processing, their own data policies apply, and whether they use it for training is governed by the provider's policy.

Can children under 14 use it?

Yes, but a guardian must consent. A parent should register with their own email address, set up access for their child, and confirm at registration that they are the guardian. A parent can write to us at any time to ask to see or delete their child's records.

Will there be ads or rankings?

There are no ads, and we don't sell or hand any data to advertisers. There are no rankings: we don't grade children or compare them with others. What parents see in the family view is this week's sticking points and the question map.

Where is the data kept, and who can see it?

Our servers are outside China, which means the photos you upload are processed and stored outside China. Photos your child submits can be seen only by the operator, to improve recognition quality; to troubleshoot faults or carry out manual spot-checks, a small number of staff may see problems and explanations. Apart from the two AI providers named above, OpenAI and Google, we do not give content to any other third party.

How do I delete my data?

Transcribed text is deleted automatically after 7 days and photos after 90 days at most, with nothing for you to do. To delete sooner, delete the conversation in Duowenwen, and the photos, text and explanations in that conversation are deleted together. To delete your whole account, write to us; once deleted, your email address, records and question maps are deleted together, and payment records are kept for the period the law requires.

Who do I contact with questions?

Write to support@duowenwen.ai. We're a very small team, but we do reply.

By default, back-office analytics exclude controlled acceptance runs and unknown historical sources. Automatic leads only show counts and the observation window; conclusions and improvement status are recorded by authorised staff by hand, and a lead does not mean a defect has been confirmed.
